School Council Update: Anti-Bullying campaign!

By K Lawson26th November 2017

This year, our School Council have decided to really focus on the promotion of Anti-Bullying in school. The children have been hard at work behind the scenes investigating ways that they can promote positive and inclusive attitudes towards each other, and how they could improve the way we, as a school, promote anti-bullying.

The School Council members started by speaking to their class to find out if they had any ideas – and you had hundreds! The School Council managed to narrow it down to the top few ideas with the winning idea of installing a BUDDY BENCH (or two) alongside introducing a BUDDY SYSTEM.

To run alongside national anti-bullying week, the children also decided to plan, create and deliver an anti-bullying assembly on Wednesday 22nd November 2017. The children were absolutely brilliant and lots of people have been discussing the important message that ‘bullying will NEVER be tolerated or accepted at Ashley Primary School and we are firmly AGAINST bullying.’

In order to buy a Buddy Bench, the School Council have decided to raise money and promote anti-bullying at the same time. To join our campaign against bullying and to help raise money for the Buddy Benches; the School Council will be selling badges, pens, pencils and rulers with special anti-bullying messages on.

The badges are on sale now at 50p each – if you would like one, please see your School Council rep!

Remember, bullying of any kind is NEVER ok. If you are feeling worried about yourself or someone else; you should talk to a trusted grown-up straight away!

School Council Town Hall Visit 30.1.17

By K Lawson1st February 2017

The School Council were lucky enough to be invited to visit Jarrow Town Hall yesterday to have a look around and learn a little bit about the history of it. The children were fantastic ambassadors for our school as their behaviour was exceptional the entire afternoon.  We learned lots about how a council works and we have some ideas that we would like to apply to our own School Council in the future. It was a fantastic visit!

On behalf of the School Council, I would like to thank Mrs Jewitt and Mrs Young for accompanying us on the trip – it is very much appreciated!
